Israeli student who helped Palestinian-Israelis escapes death sentence dies in prison

An Israeli high school student who had helped Palestinian prisoners escape from Israel’s high court has died in prison.

Avigdor Feldman was arrested in December and later released after spending a year on administrative detention in an Israeli prison.

According to a court statement, he was found dead on Thursday in a prison cell in the central Israel settlement of Beit Shemesh.

The body was transferred to the Israeli hospital where it will be formally identified, the statement said.

He was convicted in April 2016 of being a member of a terrorist group and sentenced to 20 years in prison, which was later commuted to six years, with an additional six years suspended.

His wife, Yehuda, also pleaded guilty to the charges.
